Google partners Reliance Energy for consumption tracking
New Delhi (PTI): Internet search giant Google has partnered with Reliance
Energy to offer online consumption tracking facility to consumers of the power
distribution firm.
The new application 'Google PowerMeter', allows consumers to check electricity
consumption with information from utility meters and energy management devices.
"Over the past several months, we have been looking to partner with utilities
who are installing (or have already installed) this equipment (that allows
tracking of consumption)in their customers' homes," a Google spokesperson told
PTI.
Reliance Energy, along with other US firms like Glasgow EPB, JEA, San Diego Gas
and Electric and TXU Energy, is one of the very first Google PowerMeter
partners, he added.
PowerMeter is currently available to a limited group of customers, but Google
plans to expand the partners list later this year, he added.
This service would be available to Reliance Energy consumers in Mumbai, Delhi
and Orissa, covering around 6.8 million customers. It would, however, be
optional
and users will have to sign up to participate.
