Will the cane continue to touch the ground? If not, then it certainly could be something viable.

Folks: Most of us are used to wielding a long white cane that touches the ground and lets us feel the obstacles ahead. Supposing if a new cane is physically half in length and can still help us spot both the barriers above the ground and the ones below (such as man holes and gutters), do you all think it would be comfortable to use? I initially thought this could be difficult for first timers, but if we have efficient technologies that can detect a pit ahead of us as efficiently as a hanging tree branch, why not? Before revealing anything more on this, I would like to study the initial feedback from all of you on this idea. Pl don't hesitate to write in with your thoughts.
