Delhi monuments to get audio-guides

NEW DELHI: Buoyed by the success of the audio-guide in the Qutub Minar, the
Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has decided to extend the facility to all
ticketed monuments here in view of the Commonwealth Games scheduled for next
year.

"Audio-guides will be installed at all ticketed monuments before the event,"
ASI Superintending Archaeologist (Delhi) K.K. Muhammad told PTI.

They would help tourists better understand the importance of the monuments.

Delhi has 10 ticketed monuments, including the Qutub Minar, the Red Fort and
the Lal Qila.

Mr. Muhammad said the audio-guide was now available in English, French and
Spanish. It was planned to have it German, Russian, Chinese and Korean too.

Mukesh Bhargava, CEO of Integrated Digital Solutions, which provides the
know-how for the audio-guide at the Qutub Minar, said the facility had received
good response.

"It will be extended to the Red Fort in two months," he added.

The audio-guide contains the history and other details of the monument, and it
is very easy to operate.

At the Qutub Minar, the tourists are charged Rs.100 for hiring an audio-guide.
Elderly, school students and groups pay Rs.80.

The Amer Fort and the Jantar Mantar in Jaipur have had the facility since 2007.
