There are many distributions in Linux (e.g. Ubuntu, Fedora, OpenSUSE just to name a few). Orca works only in the Gnome desktop environment and (software that support the AT-SPI, assistive technology service provider interface API) once you've chosen a distribution and (you have installed it, or are running from a live CD), you can activate Orca by pressing alt+f2 (this command takes you to an equivalent of run dialogue box in windows) and typing orca and pressing enter.
