Hai, I do not know about vostro 1520. But studio laptops are very good. If you are not requiring a 15 inch screen, I think you should go for studio 14. Studio 14 will be lighter than studio 1555. 6 cell batteries generally give a backup of about 1.5 to 2 hours. Again this depends on what applications you use. If you are purchasing it online, then you can customize and take a 9 cell battery. 9 cell batteries provided by dell give very good battery backup. I have the same on my dell xps m1330 laptop. As far as windows7 goes, almost all applications which work on vista work on 7 as well. Jaws 10 works well with 7 in almost all areas. And now jaws11 is fully compatible with windows7 As windows7 comes out on 22nd October, more applications will be made compatible with this new operating system from time to time. Even now if you buy a laptop with windows vista, you are eligible for a free genuine copy of windows7. Warm regards.
