Return of the Natives by Thomas Hardy is one novel in which you find the
protagonist Clim Yobright (sorry for the wrong spelling) becoming a
preacher after losing his sight. Even in Jude the Obscure, the hero
becomes blind at the end. But none of these novels deal with the impact
of visual impairment. The best amongst modern writers who have deat with
the subject is a writer called Catharin Anderson, especially a novel
called 'Blue Skies' which deals with the retinal condition called
lattice Distrophy (again po check the spelling). R K Narayan has also
deat with the subject of blindness in one of his short story called 'The
blind dog'. Let me see if there are more.
