Blind Persons' Association is shocked to announce the passing away of Dipankar Roy, a member of its Board of Advisers in the morning today (December 6, 2009) in a hospital in Kolkata. He was sixty years of age. A out-and-out diligent man, he was of sound health, or at least, he never allowed it to interfere with his activities. He had a severe heart attack last wednessday at the Braille press complex of the Association. It was his residence for last fourteen years. Dipankar Roy was associated with a number of movements from his student life. The sightless community will remain grateful to him for the role he played in various political and social movements and thus set an exemplary character before others to follow. It was he who taught the sightless members of the organisation to share the pains and anxieties of the society and the society in turn would recognise their true worth and look towards them with dignity. He directly supervised the organisation for last twenty years.
