Thanks Mukesh for clearing this out. I checked with a sighted friend having a N79 phone and he confirmed that the number of characters left is displayed in the message editor window and is 160 - x where x is the number of characters typed. So, Talks doesn't read this info in the message editor window. Maybe, the upcoming version would read it to us.

In advance phones, you can send messages of more than 160 character but you will be charged for multiple SMS Thanks Mukesh -----Original Message----- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Zujar Shabbir Kanchwala Sent: Wednesday, June 09, 2010 12:00 AM To: 'Dr. Yogesh Sharma'; sunilsangtan...@gmail.com Cc: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Specific Command Regarding Messaging And Talks In N 79 Hi Yogesh, I too believed that the message size in characters is same across handsets and networks. I changed my belief after seeing lengthy messages going as a single message from my phone (N79/Vodafone) to others but the same message being broken into parts when sent from the latter (Spice/Tata, N72/Vodafone, etc). Suneel, you are absolutely right as far as Nokia 3230 is concerned, because, in that set as we click on the "send" link and the message happens to be longer than the prescribed limit, the mobile always announces the length of the message and asks whether we still want to send it? but in case of N 79, as we click on the "send" option, the mobile sends the message straight away without asking anything. By the way, could you please suggest me some link from where I can download the manual for Talks 4.11? And dear Zujar, to the best of my knowledge, the length of the message is universal with regard to all mobile handsets. That is why they generally provide a feature in the mobile software itself for announcing as in to how many parts the message would be divided while sending, and the sender is charged equally for each part.
