INCLUSIVE DIGITAL LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SYSTEMS

International Daisy technical conference for capacity building in developing
countries for making information accessible to all including persons with
print disabilities.

Background

In today's knowledge society,the accessibility of content is key to
Socio-Economic growth. The Creation of useful and relevant content in local
language is not enough. It is important that this content is presented to
the end user in the format that they are most comfortable to access it in.
The digital technology for storage and dissemination of content is extremely
dianamic and has opened up many new possibilities for making content
accessible to all in their preferred format. How ever,convertability,
adhering to standards such as UNI-code etc. adaptability to various devices
etc. are few key elements to realize the full potential ofthis technology. 

DAISY Consortium for formed in 1996 and has developed standards for
accessible digital content. The consortium has also facilitated development
of tools for production, distribution and playback of digital content in the
user preferred formats. DAISY Consortium members from all round the world
have implemented these standards to provide accessible content services in
their countries and are moving steadily towards formation of global
accessible digital library.

Leading experts from all over the world are getting together to share their
knowledge in this International DAISY Technical Conference which will be
held in New Delhi on October 28 - 29, 2010. This is a golden opportunity for
organizations and people in South Asia to be able to participate in these
presentations and to be able to interact with the leading experts on digital
publishing and accessible content providers from all over the globe. Leading
manufacturers of Digital Book playback and production software and hardware
will also be among us during this conference.

as the DAISY Standard.
