Reliance Communications on Friday joined hands with Nokia to offer the mobile
phone maker's Ovi Life Tools covering a range of innovative and personalised
services in agriculture, education and entertainment areas. The service is
targeted at urban and rural RCom consumers to enable them to make greater use
of mobile services. RCom will offer Ovi Life Tools services in two versions —
subscription and pay-per-use. The subscription service for education and
entertainment services will be offered at Rs.30 a month and the agriculture
service at Rs.60 a month while the pay-per-use will be priced at Rs.3 a
request. RCom will also be offering mobile data bundle of 1.2 GB on Nokia
GPRS-enabled handsets, besides giving up to 1,800 free on-net minutes bundled
with Nokia 1800 with six-month validity.
“There has been a significant adoption of smartphones by Indian consumers in
recent months. We have seen sales of smartphones on our network increase
manifold. With the rollout of 3G, we see a huge opportunity in fostering a
mutually beneficial business relationship to offer customers unique voice, data
as well as VAS innovations with Nokia,” said RCom Head (Wireless Data Services
and Alliances) Vrajesh Shelat.

According to Nokia India Director (Operator Channels) V. Ramnath, “To take
mobility to the next level, Nokia is moving beyond products to add services
like Ovi Life Tools and Ovi Music Unlimited on its devices. These services have
the potential to positively impact livelihoods on the one hand and provide
entertainment platforms to our consumers on the other. Our association with
Reliance Communications is an important step in the direction of creating a
strong ecosystem that will take these services to a larger consumer base.”

The RCom-Nokia alliance also announced exclusive offers on Ovi Music Unlimited
on some devices for faster music downloads up to 12 GB data usage (around 2,400
songs). RCom consumers can also purchase Reliance broadband datacards at an
exclusive price of Rs.1,999 along with the purchase of Nokia OMU-enabled
devices.
