Subject: Re: [AI] Lawyers Unite - Support needed against Manupatra

Hi arpit and amar, you both are my very good friends off the list too,
but I’ve chosen to write this mail on the list just to extend my
resounding support.
Though arpit has written that only people who are somewhat related to
law should contribute in this, but I could not bard myself from diving
in here.
Aah, I’ve got a very good excuse though, “what if I get scared from
lawyers and do not have a fraction of knowledge about legalities,
I’m deeply and proudly related to you folks, hence my connection with
law to is inevitable!”.
What I could gather, manipatra is perhaps the biggest Indian Online
Legal & Business Policy Database.

Importance of this is enormous for people working in law field, and if
they are not providing the equal accessibility of its services to
visually impaired persons, its surely discrimination .
i wonder, at least they should have responded to you folks against the
complains/communications you guys have sent to them.

It should definetly be fought, and I appreciate the rung you guys have
called for.

I don’t know where specifically I can land my help, so i’m better
proposing or rather forcing my help everywhere in this matter.

Being in technical field, who knows if I can be of some help while
preparing the document for “how to implement accessibility”.

So guys, count me in just adjacent to you people for any possible help
from my end.

Regards,
Prateek agarwal.

Hi Mr. Mukesh,

I have never used
legalpundit.com
personally, but have surely heard
it's name and as you said it's accessible. There are few other
websites like
indiankanoon.org
&
vakeelno1.com
which offer resources
related to law & are accessible.
There are few international legal databases such as
westlaw.com
&
Lexusnexus.com which have excellent accessibility, but are a little
expensive, and that's the reason not many places you will find them.
So, tell me should I count you in for this representation, if yes,
please send me your designation and the contact no.

Regards
Arpit

hello,
on this posting, i would like to add my comments. no doubt, manupatra
has occupied its name in most of the law coleges, law professionals,
etc. but in my view, there is one good resourceful site in the field
of law i.e.

www.legalpundits.com
which is allmost accessible and has lots of good resources like
central and state bare acts, amendements, judgments, notifications,
commentries, case laws etc.

this site is also well known in most of the law professionals and
firms/organizations in area of law. if i am not wrong this site is
even offering special rates for law students.

i find this site quite accessible.

this is just my personal opinion. efforts taken in the field of making
accessibility more aware amongst any site administration to be always
welcomed.

thanks,

Hi!

This email is for all of them who are directly or indirectly related
to law field. As most of you related to law field must be aware about
the dominance of Manupatra (legal database of legislations, rules,
orders, case laws and other related information). It is easily found
in all the major and minor law firms, NGOs, colleges etc, this
indicates that wherever you go and for any research related work
you'll inevitably need to turn
to Manupatra.
By now, you must have realised the power which it holds over us.
Now, you obviously be thinking, what's wrong in what Manupatra is
doing or what it has achieved. Well, the answer is simple; It is
inaccessible for us and it is not possible to use this website
completely without any sighted assistance.
About the same, me and my friend Amar have already written many emails
to make them aware of this short-coming,to which we have recieved no
response.
Next question you will ask me is, even if it's inaccessible, it's not
the first one to be so and neither will it be the last one to be so,
then what's the need of this hue and cry suddenly.
It's because of the large market share it holds which makes it
impossible to escape from it and that we need to start from somewhere
to make these private unaware, unsensetized moneymakers to start
giving equal weitage to us, that I decided to go ahead and set them
right.

For this I need your support. We're going to send them a
representation with names of all of us and even after doing this, if
they don't respond, then I'm going to file a case against them.
Remember, this fight is not just against Manupatra and is going to set
a landmark which will force other privately owned websites to follow
web accessibility guidelines. If there was ever a time where your
support could have made a difference, it's now. So, don't shy away,
send me or Amar your details which should include your name,
designation, occupation & contact details.

With gratitude
