Subject: Invitation to Inclusive UID meet at Bangalore on November 24, 2010
Dear friends,
Greetings from UIDAI!!!!
As you are aware Government of India has taken an initiative named Aadhaar.
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique number which the Unique Identification
Authority of India (UIDAI) will issue for all residents. The number will be
stored in a centralised database and linked to the basic demographics and
biometric information - photograph, ten fingerprints and iris - of each
individual.
My name is Mohammed Asif iqbal who lost his total eye sight at the age of 16
years old. Never the less, I received my primary, secondary and partial
college education from United States. I became the first blind commerce
graduate from St. Xavier's college Calcutta and first blind MBA from
Symbiosis (SCMHRD) pune. I have been working with PricewaterhouseCoopers
(Pwc) for over five years as senior consultant. I am a proud recipient of
national award, state role model award, etc. and lead CII disability
subcommittee for Eastern India and associated with Welfare society for Blind
(WSB) NGO dedicated for rehabilitation of blind and visually impaired
persons.
I am pleased to share the fact that I have taken a sabbatical from Pwc and
appointed by UIDAI to undertake measures by which disabled Indian citizens
can be enrolled on to UID. My role would stress on designing processes by
which enrollment of disabled Indian citizens can be ensured. My immediate
priorities are to ensure accessible UIDAI web sites, conduct workshop with
key stakeholders pertaining to disabled and gain their acceptance for this
UIDAI project as well as train the registrar on how to deal with disability
while enrolling disabled.
In this connection; workshop is being organized on November 24, 2010 at
Vishranthi Nilayam CSI Women's Compound, Diagonally Opposite to The Hindu
Office, Infantry Road, Bangalore 560 001.
The agenda of this workshop would be to deliver presentation on Aadhar
initiative taken by the government. The duration of the workshop would be
two hours and it would be interactive in nature as well as brain storming
session. I also would like to seek input on the followings:
* How UIDAI can be inclusive in nature as well as prove to be disabled
friendly
* Reach out to disabled community and ensure enrolment for those
people who can not move out of their base location.
* How to generate awareness of UIDAI among NGO dedicated to serve Pwds
May I request you to kindly confirm your participation via returned Email
privately at
[email protected]
Thanks and look forward to visit with you soon.
With warm regards
Asif
