Good Morning Members of the vOICe Mailing List, While this is a little off topic, but as there are a number of technically minded people on this list, I was asked to make the following post. Cisco Academy for the Vision Impaired - Welcomes Applications for 2011 Are you curious about the hardware inside of your computer? Do you want to sharpen your troubleshooting and computer maintenance skills? Perhaps you would like to build a computer or home network of your own. The Cisco academy for the vision impaired is accepting applicants for classes in the first semester of 2011. We Will be offering . IT Essentials 1, . Discovery 1 and . Exploration 1 Beginning in February. ITE1 is an introduction to the PC including: . Choosing and assembling computer hardware, . Installing, maintaining and troubleshooting an operating system, . portable devices and peripherals, . and an introduction to networking, security and customer service. Discovery 1 is focused on home and small business networking. It is the first of four courses that prepare students to take the CCNA certification. Exploration is a more in depth look at networking, both theoretical and practical for those students who wish to really get their hands into building and designing networks. Each class runs for a total of six months, with online lectures. The classes are self-paced so you can finish them in a month, or take the entire semester if desired. The full cost for each course is 500 Australian dollars. However students who are paying out of their own pocket need only come up with $150. Students must have: . A stable internet connection (broadband is desirable) . A working headset and microphone . Skype - for communication with instructors and . Ventrilo - for participating in online lectures. Students will be assisted with installing this. Because we do not teach basic computer skills, Students must also be: . competent in the use their assistive technology of choice . Confident using the internet, and . Familiar with reading and navigating PDF. Some ability to research is also desirable, though students will get plenty of practice during the course of their studies! Applications will be accepted until 28 January 2011. The Cisco Academy for the Vision impaired enables blind students to enter the world of Information technology. We provide: .
