I have read the advertisement of South-Eastern Railway I mentioned. And I note
that jobs are specified for certain categories of vision like a1, a2 and so on
up to c2. I found a brief study report on the categories of vision according to
which, as far as I understand, totally blind, even low vision candidates cannot
apply for these jobs. I am pasting below the categories for your reading:
Medical category & examples of categories of employment
Distant vision
Near vision
A1 (Engine Drivers, Assistant Drivers, Shunters etc.)
6/6, 6/6 with out glasses with fogging test (must not accept +2D)
Sn 0.6, 0.6 with out glasses
A2 (Guards, Switch men, Station Masters etc.)
6/9, 6/9 without glasses (no fogging test)
-Do-
A3 (Loco foreman, Senior Section Engineer- P.Way, Gate man etc.)
6/9, 6/9 with or without glasses, power of lenses not to exceed 2D
Sn 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses
B1 (Gang men, Key men, Ambulance Drivers etc.)
6/9, 6/12 with or without glasses. power of lenses not to exceed 4D
Sn 0.6, 0.6 with or without glasses when reading or close work is required
B2 (Travelling Ticket inspectors, Crane Driver, Mason etc.

C1 (Station clerks, Stenographers, Sweepers etc.)
6/12, 6/18 with or without glasses

C2 (Pharmacists, Nurses, chowkidars etc.
6/12, Nil with or with out glasses
Sn 0.6 combined with or without glassed when reading or close work is
required.

The advertisement specifies certain categories of vision, such as A-2, B-1
and so on. I could not find out any explanation for these types of vision
online. Can anyone thow some light on it? Actually, my friends can't apply for
these posts unless they know the category they belong to in respect of vision.
