Dear friends,

Wish you all a very happy New Year!

It gives me great pleasure to be able to contribute on this mailing list
again, after quite some years! This list is where my journey into Assistive
Technology began, and today, for the New Year, I am happy to announce the
launch of AccessibleNews Daisy, a revolutionary software that converts news
websites and blogs into digital talking books, so you can carry them with
you!

You can read more about this software on
http://www.accessiblenews.co.in/daisy and also in the press release
announcing this launch at http://accessiblenews.co.in/?view=media I am
quoting an extract from this press release, towards the end of this mail.

The software is very simple to use, and I invite all of you to use it. Any
feedback will be most appreciated!

Warm regards,

Gaurang Kanvinde.

Quoting from the press release announcing the launch

With this tool, a blind person can conveniently read his or her favorite
newspapers and websites from his portable book reading device or mobile
phone, rather than having to be in front of a computer.

Says Gaurang Kanvinde, one of the founders of Accessible Systems, *"Sighted
people get their news from a simple portable device called the newspaper, so
why a blind person should be denied the same? With a digital talking book,
blind people can read news, just like a sighted person reads newspapers
daily - over breakfast, and a morning cup of tea!"*

The user interface is browser based and since accessibility has been a key
criterion in its design, it is screen reader friendly. Once a user provides
the links to websites of his or her choice, the software reads from these
websites, and converts them to a Daisy book. The tool also provides help in
the form of easy-to-read tutorials.

Accessible News Daisy is free to download after registration at
http://www.accessiblenews.co.in The tool is free to try for 15 days after
which the user can choose a suitable subscription plan.
