Yes the knfb reader works well with the e72. I don't know about the other phone you mentioned but they have a list of supported phones on their web site. Sometimes it goes out of date though so it's best to email their tech support to ask about a specific phone. They are responsive and they do answer emails unlike some other tech support people I know.
