** * * *‘Light it Up Blue’, for World Autism Awareness Day, April 2* * * *Light It Up Blue* is an initiative of Autism Speaks,an Ameriacan organization, with retail, corporate and media partners in over 25 U.S. cities and 16 countries around the world turning their structures bright blue to raise awareness about autism. The Empire State Building, CN Tower, Kingdom Tower and the Niagara Falls are just a few of the most notable landmarks to light up blue last year. Over 200 iconic landmarks, airports, bridges, sports arenas, museums, concert halls and restaurants are part of this initiative. More on www.lightitupblue.org. India has joined this global initiative this year. Chennai joins this awareness initiative with *We CAN*, an NGO and resource centre working with autism, in association with *Rotary Club of Madras Downtown*, is partnering city corporates, retail and media to *Light It Up Blue*. The staff of these hotels and Clubs and that of other restaurants and stores like Lifestyle and Anokhi will also wear badges with the logo of World Autism awareness Day. Book-marks are also being made available at billing/ reception desks of outlets and restaurants and posters are being put up at some places as well. *World Autism Awareness Day* On December 18, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day (WAAD), to bring the world's attention to autism, a pervasive disorder that affects tens of millions. *The World Autism Awareness Day resolution brings to focus:* · the need to take measures to raise awareness about autism throughout society and to encourage early diagnosis and early intervention. · the prevalence and high rate of autism in children in all regions of the world and the consequent developmental challenges. · the unique talents and skills of persons with autism and is a day when individuals with autism are warmly welcomed and embraced in community events around the globe. · the need to give a voice to the millions of individuals worldwide who are undiagnosed, misunderstood and looking for help. *About We CAN* *We CAN* (We Challenge Autism Now), is an organization that caters to the unique needs of those with autism.
