sorry for the intervening the conversation, but i am facing the similar
problem after installing g_talk scripts.
when i use the key combination mentioned by you, Mr. Jaws says "this feature
is available in google talk main window." what to do now?

Hello,
Go to google talk's settings by Control plus shift plus s.
Then, go to general tab, where you'll find friends list hide offline
friends checkbox,
uncheck this checkbox and you will find all your contacts in G talk.

I opened my g talk after a long time today. To my surprise, Jaws
isn't reading any of the contacts. I could add friends, but it's list
of contacts that Jaws isn't reading.
I reinstalled Jaws scripts which didn't improve the situation. I use
Jaws 11. Are there separate scripts for this version? The version of
google talk I'm using is googletalk-1.0.0.104.
