Thaindian news New Delhi, April 11 (IANS) Indian disabled rights activist Javed Abidi has been invited to attend the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) committee meeting in Geneva.
The CRPD committee meets once every quarter to review the progress of the implementation of the UNCRPD. "I am thrilled for having been invited but at the same time, I will face acute embarrassment before the international community because India has not filed its Country Report even until now," Abidi said. He said the report was to be submitted by May 3 last year but the social justice and empowerment ministry, instead of preparing the report on their own, outsourced the task to a consultant. "I am appalled that there is just no sense of accountability, no concept of deadlines when it comes to the ministry," he added. Abidi is also the member of the council of Disabled People's International (DPI). http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/uncategorized/indian-activist- IF we not part of the solution then we are part of the problem With Regards Pradeep T.S SyndicateBank Information Technology Cell Regional Office Bangalore Mobile: 9845925188 email: [email protected] skype: pradeepsocialwork To unsubscribe send a message to [email protected] with the subject unsubscribe.
