Have you tried it with the Dell application called Function Keys? I am using Dell mini1012 and the application is installed in my system by default. So when the option "Use the F1-F12 keys to control software features" is checked, the normal f1-f12 functions can be performed without the FN key and the FN key is required to access the Dell f1-f12 functionalities. And vice versa if the above option is unchecked.

If the application is not there in the system, you may think of downloading/installing it from the Dell technical Support page.

Though I am not at all familiar with the specifications of your system, I still feel the issue is related to the above mentioned application on the basis of your description.

Thanks.

Hi Pranav and all,

This appears to be a Windows/laptop-specific problem rather than a Jaws
one. The function keys on my laptop perform different tasks when used
without the FN key and when used in combination with the FN key. I must have
inadvertently pressed some key, which switched this configuration around.
For example, I now have to press the fn key-insert-F12 in order to check
time instead of insert-F12. This is the same with the key combination for
accessing the system tray and the links list.

I am unable to reverse this change as I have know clue what I did to bring
it on in the first place. Insights from other Windows 7/Dell laptop users
would be much appreciated. Mine is a Dell XPS 15 machine. Thanks.
Geetha

Hi Geetha,

Have you checked the JAWS keyboard manager? Are these keystrokes still
defined?

Pranav
