Several trainings/workshops are scheduled for June-July 2011 at the Equal
Opportunity Cell, University of Delhi. If you want to join any of the
programs please contact EOC at the earliest.
Briefly, the following programs will be conducted.
- A two weeks refresher computer course for visually impaired
teachers (both from DU and outside)
- A Three weeks refresher computer course for visually impaired
- A four days Orientation program on assistive technology (DU
staff
only)
- A Six days workshop on creating alternate accessible reading
formats
There are no charges for joining the programs. Please note that no
accommodation will be provided.

1. Refresher computer course for visually impaired faculty members of DU
(10 participants) Duration: 12 days , 2 PM to 5 PM
Who can apply: Visually impaired faculty members of DU
Description: This training will help visually impaired teachers improve
their computer skills for reading books, preparing question papers,
maintaining attendance records etc
13 - 25 July

2. Refresher course on computer application and assistive technologies
(15 participants) Duration: 3 weeks, 10 AM to 1 PM
Who can apply: Any person with disability having basic computer knowledge
Description: This training will help computer literate persons with
disabilities enhance their computer skills. This training will focus on
use
of open source screen reader software for Hindi and regional language
computing.
This course may help participants in using the computer for their studies
and personal independence.
13 June-22 July

3. Orientation Program on Assistive Technologies
(2 batches, 10 participants each) Duration: Four days, 10.30 AM to 1.30
PM
Who can apply: Personnel working in the IT department or computer labs of
various colleges
Description: Empower the IT staff of colleges with knowledge &
application
of assistive technologies so that they can support training & use of
computers by students with disabilities in their institutions.
Admission: EOC will write to different colleges inviting participation.
This training will be free of charge. Conveyance, TA/DA if applicable to
be
borne by the sponsoring colleges.
Course Outline in brief: Understanding persons with disabilities,
Alternative methods of computer access, Assistive & adaptive technologies
for visually impaired, physically handicapped, installation, use and
basic
configuration of tools.

4. Creating alternate accessible reading formats
(12 participants) Duration: 5 days, 10 AM to 4.30 PM
Who can apply: People engaged in production of Braille/Talking books or
people expected to work on conversion of reading material into accessible
formats. Good computer knowledge is essential.
Description: This one week workshop will focus on creating accessible
reading formats namely DAISY, Braille, E-text and Large print. The
workshop
will include use of latest softwares for creating the alternative
formats.
18 - 23 July 2011
There is no fee for joining any of the programs. Interviews may be
conducted
for admission.
Certificates will be provided on successful completion of all the
courses.
