First, you might considering upgrading to openbook 9, because of the
accuracy improvements which it has made in its recent version. Openbook 9 is
much much better then openbook 8. Little bit of search will enable you to
upgrade easily.
Secondly, I would recommend you to go with Cannon scanners as I have been
using same from long time, and I am very satisfied with the quality and
support services.
HP scanners can also be considered.
As such if you go with good brands, then the software would have little role
to play in terms of quality, because all good scanners are generally
compatible with the OCRs available in the market.
Currently I am using Openbook 9 with pearl camera, which is of
freedomscientific only.
I must appreciate Freedomscientific for the kind of improvements which they
have shown in its openbook.
