The Maharashtra State Election Commission on Thursday announced that
each of the over 62, 000 electronic voting machines (EVMs) to be used
in the upcoming local-body polls in the State would be equipped with
Braille.

This is one of the features among the disabled-friendly initiatives
rolled out by the Commission. State Election Commissioner Neela
Satyanarayana said ramps at polling stations would be made
user-friendly after complaints of voters facing great difficulty using
the ramps were reported by many organisations in the previous polls.

The Commission is also mulling over the idea of setting up polling
kiosks at hospitals and other institutions and offering the facility
of e-voting so as to enable aged persons, patients in hospitals and
prisoners to exercise their right to vote.
