Now, get train ticketson your cell phone

Railway passengers can now get their e-tickets on their cell phones instead of
having to take printouts.

Named as 'm-ticket,' the mobile phone-based ticket booking system envisages a
passenger to book the ticket through mobile phones and carry the display
ticket, sent to the cell phone by an SMS.

"The passenger need not carry a printout of his or her ticket and will have to
just show the SMS," said a senior Railway Ministry official.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched the facility on Thursday at
a programme in Kolkata.

The official said that a person having Internet connection on a mobile can
avail the facility by downloading the mobile ticketing application on the phone
from the new Indian Railways portal.

M-ticket is a part of the comprehensive Indian Railways web portal, with the
URL www.indianrailways.gov.in, which has been launched to consolidate all the
services and information on a single window web interface for the public.

Individual users desirous of utilising the m-ticket facility can do so by
downloading the mobile ticketing application on cell phone from the new portal,
using the URL sent through the SMS.

On completion of booking and payment formalities, an SMS containing the ticket
details will be sent to the user which is referred to as the Mobile Reservation
Message (MRM). The cost of MRM sent from the portal will be borne by the
Railways.

The facility of booking m-tickets through the new portal will be available from
12.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. daily. - PTI
