Dear All I fully agree with Purnima's views.
My suggestion is instead of starting a special school or college, we should look forward of making the existing school & colleges accessible, it's a difficult task but not an impossible one. Many NGO's can get associated with near by school & colleges & help up them in setting up the required infrastructure within their premises. Joint sharing of expertise will surely give a quicker approach to fulfil the need. This are just my views, nothing particular to anyone. Education is what remains with us after we have forgotten what we learnt from books ,Having said that I strongly advocate for an inclusive education system and would like to oppose the idea of any special school or college .Education is not just learning any particular subject ,It is the process that mold one's personality .Education in a regular college would help an individual to develop his /her personality in holistic manner .It will help him to compete with sighted students and help him to develop skills appropriate for surviving in this world where the fittest survive. Education is a great socializing process, it shall help him to develop skills to deal with others it shall also help others to better understand disability and help better integration of the VI in to the social main stream .It shall help in removing the social prejudice against the disabled people and helps in building a base for an inclusive society. Today we need a disable friendly education system and any centralized hub may create problems in the long run .the students from these special colleges would have to face social stigma which would be detrimental for him in matters of recruitment and further career development When a disabled studies in a regular college he feels a part of the society and does not develop the perceptions that he is different from others this is important for his self-esteem it thus helps in building positive environment where the dream of an equal world could be cherished and achieved. Special school or college would lead to seclusion and isolation of the individual and will also contribute to further social marginalization "The difference between school and life? In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson." Tom .Proper education helps us to face life with confidence .I think that special school are no solution to problems like accessibility we need to find some other practical solution.
