hello friends, in my opinion, government has to build beautiful footpath for easy walking for all the people. it is the duty of government to create easy walking area along the roads for disabled. we can take this matter in to court for justice collectively. in india, most of the roads are either under repair, or under construction work. we cannot walk on the road, but it is the duty of the government to keep the footpath in good condition always. then only we can think about safe and independent mobility with the help of white cane.
with best regards

Subject: [AI] Guidelines for barrier free environment

Hi all,

Greetings from Eyeway Helpdesk!

One of our caller asked us if there are some guidelines in place to make the hospitals accessible to persons with disabilities.

We could find the Guidelines and Space Standards for Barrier Free Built Environment for Disabled and Elderly Persons, issued in 1998 by Central Public Works Department, Ministry of Urban Affairs & Employment, Government of India. (www.urbanindia.nic.in/writereaddata/GuideLines%20of%20Schemes/92.pdf).

Are there any updates to these guidelines? and, are there any international guidelines in place?

Thanks,
With best regards,
