Turning the monitor off in the case of laptops/net books totally depends upon the configuration of the display drivers supplied with the models. While Dell models do not seem to having any option to completely turn the monitor off, the Samsung net books offer that feature provided you install the display drivers supplied by the company only, the keystroke for the same however, varies from model to model, but generally in Samsung net books, it should be FN key +F5. besides that, there are quite number of third party softwares which provide this functionality irrespective of brands and models.
