I agree there can be difference in the behavior of FunctionKey+F1 to F12 key combinations on different models of the same brand. I mentioned F9 and F10 for HP as I used two models from HP (HP Probook and HP Elitebook) and found the same keystrokes to control brightness. If it doesn't work you always have an option to refer the manual.
