Friends,
by digital camera I meant the camera with still images (Photos). As per my knowledge, all the digital cameras with video recording facility have the option to take still images. In fact I am experimenting a little bit about it. your knowledge and experience will add to it greatly.

some of the fellow members mentioned the products like KNFB reader and others. As the information I got from Ram Agarwal, KNFB reader is no longer available as a stand alone device and it is a software. moreover, I hope no one will object if I say that those products are expensive to middle class people. Most of us have Kurzweil, a good user-friendly software. all that one needs is a device that feeds it with compatible images of printed pages. We can get a good quality camera for 15000 - 20000 Rs. and it will be economic when compared to one with 70000 Rs. As you know, Kurzweil does not take long time to recognize images. much of the time is consumed in scanning and it requires lot of patience to hold the books firmly on the scanner bed, that too, large books like those with 1000 to 1500 pages. in addition to that, some persons require that the binding of the books borrowed from them are not damaged. I don't know about Umax and portable scanner with Karishma. how much time they take to scan a full A4 page? do they do it in 1 or 2 seconds?

I request all the members to contribute their knowledge on the matter.

Umesha

Hi recently I saw that karishma enterprises are having potable scanner
with them which is very useful and it takes images like a camera. Its
very good for recognition of voluminous books. But the cost of that
scanner is above 70,000 Rs.

Friends you did not understand my real question. that's why I changed the
subject line.
I am also using HP scanner from past 6 years. but it takes about 45 to 50
seconds to scan a page using them whereas we capture an image in a digital
camera within a second. so if we can use thus obtained images of pages of
our books, I hope that we can greatly save time. presently I have to scan
about 10000 pages of my printed books which requires me more than 100 hours of continuous heavy labour. so friends, I want to know your opinions, ideas
and experiences about the possibility of getting the page images for
kurzweil from digital cameras like sony handycams. please contribute your
knowledgeable replies and help my purpose.

Yours
Umesha

I use Umex 4100, and it has been working for me for the last six-seven
years. So, it means everyone talks about the brand of the scanner that he
or she has. There is noone who says that a particular brand is not good.
So, to conclude, all the brands available in the market are good. No
company can afford to put a weak model in the market.

I think you should go to HP scanners, which are fast, acuret, and
durable, I am using the same.
