The JNU has openings for faculty positions at the level of Professor, Associate 
Professor and Assistant Professor (PH Category) in the areas of specialization 
as indicated against each. The essential qualifications/ scales of pay for 
these positions will be as per the UGC Regulations, 2010. 

 

Candidates with good academic record, teaching/research experience and working 
in related areas of research are encouraged to apply.  University also solicits 
applications from candidates with research interests that are interdisciplinary.

 

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

PROFESSOR

SCALE OF PAY: Rs. 37400-67000 AGP Rs. 10000

For direct recruitment of  Professor in the University, consolidated API scores 
of 400 points is required alongwith other specified eligibility qualifications 
stipulated in the Regulations 2010.

a)      Academic Background 20%

b)      Research Performance based on API score and quality of publications 40% 

c)      Assessment of Domain Knowledge and Teaching Skills 20%

d)      Interview Performance:  20%

1.     An eminent scholar with a doctoral degree in the 
concerned/allied/relevant discipline and published work of high quality, and 
actively engaged in research with evidence of published work with a minimum of 
ten publications as books and/or research/policy papers.

2.     A minimum of ten years experience in post-graduate teaching, and/or 
research at a University/National level institution, including experience of 
guiding research at doctoral level.

3.     Contribution to educational innovation, design of new curricula and 
courses, and technology-mediated teaching process.

4.     A minimum score as indicated in the Academic Performance Indicator (API) 
based Performance Based Appraisal System (PBAS) as set out in the  UGC 
Regulations, 2010.

 

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

SCALE OF PAY: Rs. 37400-67000 AGP Rs. 9000

For direct recruitment of Associate Professor in the University, consolidated 
API scores of 300 points is required alongwith other specified eligibility 
qualifications stipulated in the Regulations 2010.

a)      Academic Background 20%

1.     Good academic record with  doctoral degree in concerned or 
allied/relevant discipline. 

2.     A Masters degree with at least 55% of the marks or an equivalent grade 
of 'B' in the 7 point scale with letter grades O, A, B, C, D, E.

3.     A minimum of eight years experience of teaching and/or research in an 
academic/research position equivalent to that of Assistant Professor in a 
University/College or Accredited Research Institution, excluding the period of 
doctoral research, with some distinction in the areas of scholarship as 
evidenced by quality of a minimum of five publications as books and/or 
research/policy papers.

4.     Contribution to educational innovation, design of new courses, 
curricula, and technology-mediated teaching/learning process and/or evidence of 
having guided doctoral candidates and/or research students.

5.     A minimum score as indicated in the Academic       Performance Indicator 
(API) based Performance           Based Appraisal System (PBAS) as set out in

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

 

SCALE OF PAY: Rs. 15600-39100 (PB-3) AGP Rs. 6000

weightages to be considered for selection alongwith other specified eligibility 
qualifications stipulated in the Regulations 2010.

a)      Academic Record and Research Performance: 50%

b)      Assessment of Domain Knowledge and Teaching skills: 30% 

c)      Interview Performance:  20%

 1.    Good academic record with at least 55% marks or, an equivalent grade of 
'B' in the 7 point scale with letter grades O,A,B,C,D,E and F at the Master's 
Degree level, in a  relevant subject from an Indian University, or an 
equivalent degree from accredited  foreign University. 

2.     M.Phil and Ph.D. in the relevant field may be prescribed in appropriate 
cases, a desirable or essential qualification. The minimum qualifications shall 
not be relaxed even if a candidate has research degrees like M.Phil or Ph.D.

3.     a) Qualification in the National Eligibility Test (NET) for Lecturers 
conducted           by the UGC, CSIR or a similar test accredited by the UGC 
(disciplines in which NET is not conducted are exempted from this condition).

b)   Candidates who have been awarded the Ph.D. degree in accordance with the 
University Grants Commission (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of 
Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009, shall be exempted from the requirement of

M. Sc. In environmental sciences or in any branch of 
physical/chemical/biological/geological sciences. Ph.D. in any field related to 
Environmental Sciences. Candidate should have a proven record of independent 
research work in any area relevant to Environmental Geosciences, Environmental 
Pollution, Environmental Biology, Environmental Health, Biodiversity and 
conservation.  

 

17  Assistant Professor in Environmental Biology  

      (Reserved for PH- OH) 

 

The School would like to initiate research in emerging areas of Environmental 
Biology, including applied genomics.  Candidates with Ph.D. degree in any 
branch of Biology/Life Sciences/ Environmental Sciences/ Biotechnology may 
apply. Research / Teaching experience in the use of modern molecular techniques 
to study biodiversity/ environmental microbes and pathogens/bioaerosols is 
essential. Candidates must have published their work in refereed international 
journals of high impact factor.

18  Associate Professor in Chemistry

The research emphasis of the School has been on the topics of Chemical Physics, 
Computational Physics, Condensed Matter Physics, Disordered Systems, Granular 
Materials, Mathematical Physics, Non-equilibrium Statistical Mechanics, 
Nonlinear Dynamics, Probability Measure, Quantum Chaos, Quantum Optics, 
Statistical Nuclear Physics, and String Theory. Experimental areas include 
Complex 

 

Fluids, Materials Science, Superconductivity, Magnetism, Nonlinear Optics, 
Semiconductors, Polymers and Nanoparticle Physics.

 

The School has recently commenced research in the areas of Supramolecular & 
Materials Chemistry, Ultrafast Laser Spectroscopy and Ultrafast Fluorescence 
Microscopy. The School is interested in initiating research in the frontier 
areas of Organic, Inorganic and Physical Chemistry, such as Theoretical and 
Polymer Chemistry, X-ray Crystallography, NMR spectroscopy, etc. Outstanding 
candidates in all areas of Experimental and Theoretical Chemistry are 
encouraged to apply.

 

19  Assistant Professor in Physics

     The current research activities of the School are in Experimental and 
Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics, Equilibrium and Nonequilibrium 
Statistical Physics, Biophysics, Chemical Physics, Mathematical Physics, 
Materials Science, Nonlinear Dynamics and Chaos, Quantum Optics and Nonlinear 
Optics, and String Theory. The School is interested in expanding its research

(i) M.Phil/Ph.D. degree in Cinema Studies; (ii)Research publications; 
experience in teaching Cinema Studies courses and knowledge of the discipline 
is desirable.

 

Note

Candidates must possess the qualifications as prescribed by the UGC for the 
respective posts.  The above posts carry UGC pay scales plus admissible 
allowances.

(i) A relaxation of 5% may be provided from 55% to 50% of the marks at the

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

1.   Application form duly filled in all respect by the candidate must be 
supported by attested copies of all certificates, Mark Sheets, evidence of 
teaching, research experience and production of M.A./M.Phil/Ph.D./NET 
certificates, copies of reprints of published articles, certificate containing 
the record of date of birth, etc.

 

2.   Incomplete application form without signature of candidate or without the 
prescribed fee shall summarily be rejected.          

 

 

 

3.   The University reserves the right to:

(i)       draw panel(s) for future appointment(s) in the event of occurrence of 
a vacancy caused by non-joining of candidate(s) within the stipulated time or 
where a candidate joins but resigns or dies within a period of a year from the 
date of joining; 

(ii)     consider the applications received after the last date; but 
eligibility will be determined as on the last date of submission of application.

(iii)     consider "in-absentia" those who may have applied but are not able to 
appear for the interview; 

(iv)    not to fill up any of the advertised positions.

 

4.   Qualifications and other conditions applicable are subject to UGC 
regulations 2010 as amended from time to time.

 

5.   The period of time spent by the candidates to acquire M.Phil and/or Ph.D. 
Degree shall not be considered as research experience. 

 

6.   Relaxation in educational qualifications, experience, age, etc. to the 
reserved category candidates will be permissible as per Government of India 
rules.

 

7.   Candidates belonging to SC/ST category must submit appropriate 
certificates issued by the competent authority recently.  In the case of OBC 
reservations, certificate should be issued from competent authority 
particularly with reference to Non-creamy layer. Those who fail to submit the 
required certificate(s) will be treated as General Cat

      egory, subject to fulfillment of other terms & conditions.

 

8.   The candidates applying under PWD Category are required to submit the 
Disability Certificate issued by the competent authority in the format 
prescribed by Government of India for this purpose.

 

9.   The prescribed essential qualifications are the minimum and the mere 
possession of the same does not entitle candidates to be called for interview. 
Where the number of applications received    in response to an advertisement is 
large and it will not be convenient or possible to interview all       the 
candidates, the University, at its discretion,                                  
    may restrict the number of candidates to a reasonable limit on the basis of 
qualifications/experience higher than the minimum prescribed in the 
advertisement.

  

10. Post number and post applied for should be clearly indicated on the 
application form. 

            

11.  Separate Application Form/Bio-Data Form is required to be filled up for 
each post.

 

12.  Those already in Government service should forward their application 
through proper channel.             

      

13.  Candidates are advised to satisfy themselves before applying that they 
possess  the minimum API Scores prescribed,  minimum essential qualifications 
as well as the desirable qualifications and attach evidence thereon. 

 

14. The eligibility of the candidates will be determined on the basis of 
qualifications acquired by them upto the last date fixed for receipt of 
applications.  

 

15. The University reserves the right to  modify/withdraw/cancel any 
communication made to the candidate(s) at any stage in case of any inadvertent 
mistake in the process of selection may be detected even after issue of 
appointment letter. 

 

16. The University shall verify the antecedents or documents submitted by a 
candidate at any time of appointment or during the tenure of the service.  In 
case, it is detected that the documents submitted by the candidates are fake or 
the candidate has undesirable clandestine/antecedents and has suppressed the 
said information, then his service shall be terminated.
