it is not just 3 GB the maximum would be around 4 GB. system can utilize around 3.1 to 3.5 GB depending on conditions. for Example if you have shared graphics memory on your board of around 750 MB, i found windows utilizing around 2.75 GB for normal activity. if you have dedicated graphic card you can get around 3.3 to 3.5 GB of ram in a 4 GB stick. on my 32 bit OS of win 7 i could use around 3500 MB out of 4 GB stick.
