Subject: Telegram campaign on UNCRPD day.

Dear friends,

Greetings!

As the world remembers the adoption of UNCRPD on 13th December our country
has moved no where near its implementation.

We do not even have a disability law in lines with the convention even after
four years of the nation ratifying the same. As you are aware there is a
general feeling that the voices of disabled people are not heard in the
process of the new law drafting in our country. Comprehensiveness of the law
, equality before law the two most important non-negotiables are still a big
question mark even after 18 months into the drafting process. The situation
is such that the ministry has come out and said that the ministry does not
own the draft submitted by the Dr. Sudha Kaul Committee as yet. All these
are a few points of the many that are out of the scope of this email that
warrants an action by the stake holders on 13th December 2011. We are
initiating a telegram campaign to the Prime Minister and the Mr. Mukul
Wasnik with the message:

" We want one Comprehensive Law ensuring full legal capacity. Listen to the
voices of Disabled People"

This campaign is being initiated in consultation with disabled people across
South India.

As you are aware such a campaign will be effective only if thousands of
telegrams reaches the above mentioned offices. We therefore request you to
send telegrams as well as request as many people to send similar telegrams
to make this campaign an effective one.

Thanking you in advance for your support to the cause.

With warm regards

Rajiv Rajan.
