The National Association for the Welfare of Physically Challenged
(NAWPC) will distribute scholarships to 150 visually challenged
students on January 15.
The students will receive the scholarships at an event to be held in
Annabhau Sathe Vidyalaya in Sadashiv Peth.
Speaking about the initiative, NAWPC founder president Rahul Deshmukh
said the event will ensure that the visually impaired children are not
deprived of education due to financial constraints.
“I had to go through a lot of turmoil due to financial restrictions
and limitations to complete my studies. I don’t want visually
challenged individuals like me to go through the same pain.
Hence, this initiative has been started,’’ Deshmukh told DNA.
Devata Andure, a volunteer working for the organisation, said the
scholarship amount is Rs1,50,000 and it will be distributed according
to the students’ requirement.
“These children are a deprived lot and it is essential to help them to
completetheir education. The students have been selected based on
their financial background and requirement from the various
applications that we received,’’ she said.
