Dear Asif

As far as currency notes is concerned, Suhas Karnik did speak on our behalf.

Our interests have been maintained in the last committee meet.

However, coins are entirely handled by Central government and the role of RBI is merely as that of a sole distributor.

Harish Kotian.

Subject: [AI] Update on Accessible currency

Dear all,

If you recall my posting in December 2011 with regard to visit with RBI
governor; I did formulate features list of accessible currency and
accessible coin.

I was advised verbally to get in touch with Dr. Sanjeev sharma, General
Manager of Currency Design based out of Mumbai who does not seem very
supportive. He informed me that Suhas karnik is on the design committee and
any suggestion with regard to accessible currency has to be routed through
him.

Folks: I know Suhash for a long time but don't have his contact. Request
Suhash to kindly take this initiative forward.

Dr. sanjeev Sharma further informed me that coins are not purview of RBI and any request for access modification has to be approached through Ministry of
Finance. I did send detail note to RBI governor and keeping my finger
across that he would reply.

May I request Delhi team to find out which department is responsible for
designing coins?

It is certainly a disappointment when governor has expressed his willingness to implement accessible solution in 2012 but his subordinates don't have the
will to take this up.

Harish, Rajesh, is it possible to push it internally since you folks are
from RBI.

Thanks and regards

Asif
