That's a quick option to solve the problem. Since the problem statement
speaks about the SpellCheck utility, let me inform that checking the Check
Grammar check box in the dialog box can also help identify double or more
spaces between words and other grammatical errors in the document. JAWS
lists spelling errors in the document with the help of ALT+SHIFT+L. It lists
grammatical errors in the document with the help of SHIFT+INSERT+G. You can
navigate these lists with arrow keys, pressing ENTER on one of them places
the cursor on it.

wel you can use the feature of find and replace. in find what edit box type 
dubble space and in replace with edit box type single space, hit on replace 
all button.
