I installed Calibre and found it extremely powerful and useful software, but utterly inaccessible. Thinking of suggesting the developer to make it accessible to screen readers. But I need one of you to help me out by providing links to websites where more elaborate documentations / tools are available with regard to developing accessible applications

Ok here you go 1. press f2 and change the file extension from epub to zip 2. extract the zip file into a new temporary folder. 3. as per my experience, you should be able to find some htm / html files somewhere within the extracted folders. This are the files where you will find your whole book quote split across" into two or more files. Just copy the data from html files to a new txt file. 4. or better still, try if you can use any html to text converter like textpal, for instance. If someone is keen to contribute their MS dos batch script expertise to develop a simple tool to convert epub to txt, just syed.fame me on skype. I'm currently not aware of any program, but I can tell you how to manually convert epub to html / txt. All you need to do is just rename epub extension to zip then extract the files and then look for the htm files.
