for your 1st question, you should not use ctrl + E. instead, you use Shift +
f3 or Ctrl + Shift + F. the command Ctrl + E is to find contacts stored in
your addressbook. Shift + F3 is to find a mail in the present folder. the
command Ctrl + Shift + F I think is for finding mails from all the folders.
for your 2nd question, before pressing Shift + F7, press Ctrl + left arrow
or ensure your curser is at the beginning or within the word looking for.
the third question is already answered I think.
