BANGALORE: The Bangalore University has initiated more reforms to help
the
differently-abled on its campus. The varsity has now issued motorized
scooter (electric) to three of its physically challenged students.
The plan was earlier approved by the syndicate, the highest decision
making
body of the university. The director of students' welfare later
identified
around fifteen students who were eligible for this provision. Three of
them
had applied around 10 months back for these three wheel electric
scooters.
All the students will be given this scooter before the completion of
their
course for the academic year 2011-2012, the officials said. Each scooter
costs between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000.
The university, under which around 600 colleges fall, had also initiated
Braille text books in the library for the visually challenged. "We are
trying to encourage the differently- abled to continue with their
education
even after graduation. Our efforts to support them in best possible
means
will continue," said N Prabhu Dev, vice chancellor, Bangalore
University.
