If you do not want to delete the rows or the columns but just want to hide them 
instead, you can do so. Control + 9 will hide the selected rows and control + 0 
will hide the selected columns. To unhide, you can select the hidden rows or 
column  and then press control + shift + 9 or control + shift + 0. (use control 
+ alt + left, right, down and up arrow keys to navigate between hidden cells, 
as using just the arro keys will skip the hidden cells).

I guess critical information is missing in either of posts; after performing 
the blank rows selection only you need to press applications/delete... 
@sushmita we would have missed our entire data if we had followed your advice☺! 
before you can say delete, you need to confirm the selection of blank rows by 
pressing the shift+insert+down arrow.  note: selection is announced in the 
number of areas along with their range.,
