If you do not want to delete the rows or the columns but just want to hide them instead, you can do so. Control + 9 will hide the selected rows and control + 0 will hide the selected columns. To unhide, you can select the hidden rows or column and then press control + shift + 9 or control + shift + 0. (use control + alt + left, right, down and up arrow keys to navigate between hidden cells, as using just the arro keys will skip the hidden cells).
