Oh no, it's a very new concept due to the emergence of refreshable Braille
displays and also due to the reason that many computer, science and
arithmetic symbols just don't fit in 6-dot Braille system, i.e. in
6-dot-system, only 63 shapes of letters are available but in 8-dot Braille,
possibilities can be enormous, I mean, we can make more than 63 symbols.

I have heard Lui Braille was working on 8 dot codes to develop braille
codes. Is it still in use?

Subject: [AI] want detailed information about 8-dot Braille
As we all know that Braille is based on 6-dot system. But, of late, with
the advent of computers and Braille note-takers, we are hearing about
8-dot Braille. I want to know how it started, why it's important and why
we don't hear much about it even on this list of computer experts? It
would be appreciated if someone throws light on 8-dot Braille code.
