Staff Reporter The Delhi High Court on Wednesday directed the Delhi Police to provide protection to a visually-impaired man and his 14-year-old daughter against threats to their lives allegedly by his divorced wife.
Vacation Judge V. K. Jain asked the Police Commissioner to provide protection to him and his daughter on a petition by the man submitting that he had been receiving threats from his former wife for the last one month, after he brought his daughter here from Bangalore to stay with him. He submitted that he had married the woman in 1997 and the daughter was born to them next year in 1998. However, they separated immediately after the birth of the baby, the petitioner submitted. He further stated that at the time of their separation, it was agreed between them that after two or three years, the kid would be sent to stay with the father. However, the baby remained with her mother till the time he brought her to Delhi to stay with him. He alleged that he started receiving threats from his former wife after he got his daughter here. He also informed the Court that his daughter used to call him complaining that she was not being taken care of properly. Referring to the talks on phone with his daughter, the petitioner also charged that her mother did not permit her to study. She also expressed her apprehension that she would be pushed into an early marriage, the petitioner submitted quoting his daughter. Passing the direction for protection to the man and his daughter, Justice Jain also asked the city police to file a status report by July 23, the next date of hearing.
