The electric lighters found on some stoves are good and make the job easier. You just have to remember to change the battery or they won't work. If you don't have one you must use a stove lighter to get the job done. Here is what I found though. I am one who does put the pot on the burner first most of the time so I can get it centered correctly. But if you feel the outside part of the burner there are two types of surfaces where the holes are. One is vertical and the other is beveled. The stoves with the vertical surfaces are much easier to light than those with the beveled surfaces. When the outside of the burner is vertical the holes face directly outward and are easier to hit with the lighter. The beveled one's have the holes facing somewhat inward toward the underneath side of the pot so you have to aim much more carefully wasting gas, time and patience.
