Hi Pankaj, You can apply for a passport online through https://www.passport.gov.in/. Select your jurisdiction from the first combo box labelled Home Page to open Passport Seva Kendra page for your jurisdiction, for example, I selected Thane from this combo box as I stay in Kalyan. The procedure for online passport registration is fairly simple as mentioned below:
1. Download the e-Form through the "Download e-Form" link on the Home Page. 2. Fill the downloaded e-Form and click the "Validate & Save" button. This will generate an XML file which will be required later for uploading in the system. 3. Register through the Passport Seva Portal and create a User ID. (Click on "Register" link under the Online Application Filling section on the Home Page). 4. Login to the Passport Seva Portal with the User ID created in Step 3. 5. Upload the XML file (generated in Step 2) through the "Upload e-Form" link. Do not upload the PDF form at this stage as only XML file is accepted by the system. 6. Click the "Manage Appointment" link on Applicant Home page to schedule an appointment at a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK). 7. Click the "Print Application Receipt" link to print the application receipt containing Application Reference Number (ARN)/Appointment Number. 8. Visit the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) where appointment has been taken, along with original documents. These steps are also listed on the Passport Seva Kendra website and can be seen by clicking on Online Form Submission link. I had applied in April 2012 when the procedure was a little different - no registration was required and there was no PDF to fill or xml to generate/upload, instead the form was to be filled online and the site created a PDF upon submitting the online form. I received my new passport in July 2012, generally it doesn't take so long but it delayed due to improper status updates on the site and delay in police verification. The charge is Rs. 1000/- for adults and Rs. 600/- for minors for a passport with 36 pages, maybe higher for tatkaal and any other categories. -- Best Regards, Zujar...
