One correction in the below email:

In order to open Properties window for a selected drive or folder in Windows
Explorer, we need to press ALT+ENTER and not ENTER. Pressing ENTER opens the
selected drive or folder and lists its content in Windows Explorer.

Subject: RE: [AI] Save start up time

Hi Mukeshji,

If you do not intend to use backup/restore on your hard disc drives then you
can disable the "Volume Shadow Copy" feature of Windows on selected drives
to save disk space and also some amount of time. Volume Shadow Copy is a
service that creates restore points on disk drives specified in System
Properties. You can disable creation of these restore points to save disk
space (good amount of space) and speed up your system a little if you don't
intend to use System Restore on selected drives on a future date. Here's how
you can select/deselect disk drives that need not be restored by Windows:

1. Type SystemPropertiesProtection in Run window and hit ENTER. The System
Properties dialog box is opened with the Protection tab and focus is on the
list of disk drives available on your system.
2. Deselect the drives (I deselected C: on my laptop) that need not be
restored.
3. Click the OK button.

You can also disable the "Volume Shadow Copy" service if no drive needs be
restored. By default, the service is set to start manually, you can leave it
as is. Manual means it starts when required and Disabled means it would not
start at all. The other option available is Automatic which means that the
service would always start itself everytime the computer starts. Below are
the steps:

1. Type services.msc in Run window and hit ENTER.
2. TAB once to navigate to the list of services present on your computer.
3. Navigate to the Volume Shadow Copy service using letter navigation and
press ENTER on it to open its Properties dialog box.
5. TAB to Startup Type combo box in the Properties dialog box and select
"Disabled", it may appear as "Manual" by default.
6. Click the OK button.

To remove restore points created till date:

1. Open "My Computer" or "Computer" as the case may be.
2. Select C: and press ENTER to open its Properties dialog box.
3. Activate the Disc Cleanup button and wait for a while.
4. The Disc Cleanup dialog box opens. Press CTRL+TAB to switch to More
Options page of the dialog box.
5. Activate the Cleanup button in the System Restore region (the second
button).
6. Confirm your action by activating the OK button in the confirmation
dialog box.
7. Press OK button to clean up the selected drive or Cancel button to close
the Disc Cleanup dialog box with cleaning.
8. Confirm your action if you chose to clean up the selected drive in the
above step.

Here's one tip to disable programs/services that you may not want to run at
startup thus saving startup time:

1. Open the Run dialog box by pressing WINDOWS+R.
2. Type "msconfig" without quotation marks in the edit box and press ENTER
to open the System Configuration dialog box.
3. Switch to the Startup tab of the dialog box by pressing CTRL+TAB as many
times required.
4. This tab lists programs that are marked to start automatically at
startup. Uncheck the ones that you wish to disable.
5. Activate the OK button to apply changes and close the System
Configuration dialog box. Restart if required.

A word of caution:-
Disable programs that you are sure of not hampering your system. Use the
:Disable All" button only if you are 100% sure of what you're doing.
