Hi
I just played around with excel name manager when I got a few minutes left to myself in office last Friday and got pretty impressed. The Advantage of defining the row / column title using name manager is you do not have to distribute the JSI file along with your excel file. Jaws will automatically recognise the headers and read them out as you move through the cells. You just need to go to the desired cell and press control f3 and define a name as a column or row. Refer to Jaws help documentation for more details. There’s a lot more you can do with this functionality If it is a cell containing column titles, just type ColumnTitle. If it is a cell containing row titles, just type RowTitle (note the capitalisation of the first letter of the words “C” and “T” or “R” and “T”). If you want to define both column and row titles, just move to the cell where row and column titles intersect and define as just Title. Below is a sample Excel Worksheet just for illustrative purpose (Please read it using eloquence TTS). <illustration1> Microsoft Excel - book 1, sheet 1. Sales data. Fvb57 A1 through C1Fvb65 Movie Title. Fvb57 Ey2. Fvb65 Theatre Name. Fvb57 B2. Fvb65 Number of Ticket Sold / Week. Fvb57 C2Fvb65 Avenged Again. Fvb57 Ey3. Fvb65 Rhymes and Rhythms Pvt Ltd. Fvb57 B3. F vb65 16,000. Fvb57 C3. Fvb65 Haunted House. Fvb57 Ey4. Fvb65 Descriptive cinemas India PVT LTD. Fvb57 B4. Fvb65 25,000. Fvb57 C4Fvb65 Emperor Overnight. Fvb57 Ey5. Fvb65 Royal Actions India Pvt Ltd. Fvb57 B5. Fvb65 21,000. Fvb57 C5. Fvb65 </illustration1> This is how I went about defining the column title as per the details found in Jaws help. (Please read it using eloquence tts) <illustration2> Control G. Go to dialog, reference: edit combo. A,2, enter. Movie Title. F vb57 Ey2Fvb65 Control F3, Name manager dialog, close button. Tab, new ... button. Space. New name dialog, name: edit. Movie_title. Fvb78 C Fvb65 o, l, u, m, n, Fvb78 T Fvb65 I, t, l, e. Enter. List view, column title movie title=sheet 1!$B$2 workbook. Tab, close button. Enter. After defining the headers, Jaws should now read the headers as you navigate around using tab or any other navigational keys like arrow keys or page up, page down etc. Using names instead of JAWS commands makes the spreadsheet accessible to any user of JAWS. There is no need to provide other users with the spreadsheet's .jsi file because the row and column title information is saved in the worksheet. This feature allows any spreadsheet author to define row and column titles without installing or using JAWS. Thanks for reading Syed
