Dear all, Most important forward from another list. The topic should be discuss in detail. -----Original Message----- From: pawan bundela Sent: Sunday, November 04, 2012 2:09 PM To: keyboardusers Subject: KB Please please use White Cane! Hi all! I am Mr. Pawan Bundela from Mumbai. Today, i would like to bring a very important issue to your notice. We all are aware about the utility of white cane. There should be unanimity regarding the vital role white stick plays in our life. Though we agree it is an important tool for navigation, i feel that few of our visually impaired friends are unable to recognize it’s significance while mobilizing around the world. The reason i assert about this issue as i was horrified to know regarding recent mishap, “A Visually impaired studand of Ruiya college, Sujit Vishvakarma met an train accident”. Sujit is studying in 12th standard. In this unfortunate incident, sujit lost not only a leg but also a hand. As per my knowledge, he was hesitant regarding the cane’s usage. And the worst part was, at the time of the accident, he was walking on the railway platform with plugged earphones tuned to songs. This resulted in his ill-fate. A passing by train hit sujit Turning his life in miserable condition. In my college life, i came across few of visually challenged persons, who were reluctant to use cane. Amongst them, majority of them r partially sighted and confedant about their partial vision. When i started having more information about it from these fellows, i got shocking but foolish reasons. Few of them have strong feeling that using a cane means, separating our self from the sighted world. Couple of them feel that usage of cane will pose bariers for them in order to attract sighted girls. In their opinion, white cane may knock out their chance to date. these opinions seem strange, but these r some of the facts. I feel, such unfortunate incidents are increasing day by day. under the name of independent living, people r not ready to depend even on self-independent aids like cane. I strongly believe sujit’s accident case should be an eye opener for those who have deliberately blind folded themselves. this is an alarming bell for the VI community. The time has arrived to get tune to such bells and sounds in the outside world which make us aware rather than songs, which in reality disconnect us from sighted world. We all should distill our vission, that nothing is importent in our life than our safety. I personally appeal to you all that we all should initiate awareness within the VI community on the usage and the importance of white cane. I have few suggestions: 1. The organizations and schools who provide the mobility training to VI, should focus more on the safety tips. They should also try to remove misconception which I mentioned above. 2. They should have periodic check on their trainies. 3. At the same time, if any of us spot any VI on the road or the places like railway platform, walking without cane, we should immidiately stop them and make them to use cane then and there. If any one of u have more suggestions or experiences on it, then please feel free to enumerate above. Please remember, Use white cane, Sefty is main, Don’t lose your life invain. -- pawan Bundela Cell: +919870873960, +919029002476 e-mail: [email protected] Skype: pawan.b87 Facebook: HTTPs://facebook.com/pawan.bundela -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "keyboard users" group.
