Just for the sake of my curiocity. If the file is a .doc, can I save it as .docx and then perform the steps as suggested by you?

If your document is in word 2007 or higher, then you can do the following. 1. Make a copy of your word document. 2. Rename the *.docx file to a *.zip file. 3. Unzip the file. 4. Navigate the folder structure and find the image you want. 5. Load the image in to an OCR program.
