I don't think they have to fight. because usually, biometric system is not a facility given to them. it is used to control the attendance or such things of the staff. if it is not capable to recognize these VI persons, let them be excluded. it is the duty of these visually challenged staff to attend their duty but not to make the system to provide the evidence of their attendance or other things. there are official systems which are running without these biometric devices. all of them have been running from several years. when the authorities adopt a new way to control their staff, it is their duty to ensure that it covers the whole of the staff. and not the duty of the staff themselves.

Although the above mentioned percentage of visually challenged people
can be identified with biometric system, it's time consuming and those
with UID or US visa experience can bear testimony to the truth.
Henceforth it's the time for the DU visually challenged staff to fight
for a finger based biometric system.

Hi there,
I can leverage on my UID experience and perhaps attempt in answering your
query.
Iris scanner is used for authenticating biometricx . 80% of visual
impairment case can work with iris scanner but 20% of visual impairment can
not be accomodated.
However UID had an exception but don't know about DU.
Hoep this helps.

Subject: [AI] Biometric and Accessibility

Hello all,
As some of you people might be aware of the fact that very soon, maybe in a
couple of months from now, all colleges under the University of Delhi are
going to introduce biometric system to control the absenteeism and teachers
attendance. What I've heard from some unconfirmed sources that the
biometric
machines that are being procured are not finger based as most of them are
today, most probably they would be either eye contact based or face
recognition based. I'd like to know what would be the choices/remedies for
the people with visual impairment if the latter types of machines are
installed, especially if they are eye contact based. has anybody so far
come
across this kind of system? Is it really manageable the latter types of
machines for the above mentioned category of people?
