I don't have the knowledge about reading malayalam with jaws in windows xp/7. But, you can install the nvda of 12 or 13 versions for a stable solution for the mentioned requirement. you need to change the language after installing nvda in the preference. it is good, readable, and smooth.
I am one of the user of nvda for reading malayalam,
Pls try the accessibility of nvda and kindly sent your appreciable feedback to our respected access indians.
