December 21, 2012 Today Justice Debashish kargupta has asked the government of West Bengal to implement provisions for 1% reservation of posts as per Section 33(I) of the persons with Disabilities Act, 1995 in all recruitment for primary schools. in his ruling over a writ petition filed by Blind persons' Association challenging the exclusion of visually handicapped canidates from the qualifying examination for the post of primary teachers, he has declared the notification dated February 8, 2012 issued by the Department of School Education (Primary Branch) of West Bengal as null and void. This notification excluded visually handicapped candidates from the post of primary teachers or peon at school. It superseeded the list of identified jobs prepared by the union ministry of Social justice and Empowerment. The organisation's advocate Shri Pratik Dhar considers this ruling as a significant one. The Board of Primary Education should now provide reservation to the visually handicapped candidates. They must be provided with scribe, extra time during examination and separate sitting arrangement in the examination hall.
